The FunBus will leave Crescent City Noon each Thursday and Saturday listed below. We will travel south along Highway 101 through a magnificent grove of giant redwood trees. While retracing Jedediah Smith's extraordinary trek through America's Wild Rivers Coast, our driver will share with us Tolowa and Yurok tribal history and lore. Our destination is the Klamath Overlook, 600 feet above the mouth of California's largest river. The Mighty Klamath River crashes into the Pacific below us, blending millions of gallons of fresh water into the salty brine of the world's largest ocean. It is in this water wonderworld that thousands of sea creatures come together to feed and to breed. Candlefish, surf perch, smelt, lamprey eel, cutthroat trout, steelhead, salmon, sturgeon, seals, sea lions and great white sharks mingle here - sometimes in placid harmony, sometimes in a chaotic feeding frenzy. And here swims the mighty Gray Whale. Once hunted to near extinction for its blubber and valuable oil, the gray whale has accomplished a dramatic comeback. Multi-national prohibition of whaling this species, spearheaded by Mexico's measured protection of breeding lagoons, has demonstrated man's capacity to make a positive difference in his world. Join FunBus Tours as we visit this wonderous world of whales!
